I was lucky enough to be asked to create a sleeve design for the inaugural year of Secret 7" charity sale raising money for The Teenage Cancer Trust.
700 Artists created sleeves depicting one of 7 songs by 7 different bands/musicians. Mine was for 'Friday I'm In Love' by The Cure. The records were displayed without information on which of the 7 records were inside nor the name of the sleeve designer. The design was to allude to the song but not be too obvious when shelved alongside the other tracks. I thought any kind of visual link to love would be much too obvious. Maybe I went a bit too obscure?
The cover was based on the lyrics below. Only the front side was visible at the sale, which was held at the Idea Generation Gallery, Shoreditch, London. So the lyric on the back didn't give anything away.
Always take a big bite
It's such a gorgeous sight
To see you in the middle of the night
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
they were talking about takeaways right?
